Sanur doesn't shout. While Seminyak attracts the party crowd and Ubud draws the spiritual seekers, Sanur has been quietly delivering exceptional weddings for decades, anchored by some of the most historically significant properties in all of Bali. The beach faces east across a protected bay — calm, clear water safe for swimming at any tide, with sunrises that paint the Nusa Penida and Mount Agung backdrop in extraordinary colour.

Two things set Sanur apart. First, the quality of the boutique properties here is exceptional — Villa Batujimbar alone would justify the trip. Second, the central location makes it the easiest wedding destination for dispersed guest groups to reach: 20 minutes from the airport, 15 minutes from Gianyar, 40 minutes from Ubud. Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall married here in 1990. Princess Diana retreated here from media attention. Sting gave an impromptu concert for the houseguests. Originally the home of celebrated Australian artist Donald Friend, Batujimbar is steeped in cultural history that no purpose-built wedding venue can replicate. Nine bedrooms, a 20-metre pool, tennis court, gym and direct access onto Sanur's white-sand beach. The Lembu Bale — a moated double-storey antiques-filled pavilion with wide steps to the gardens — is one of the most extraordinary ceremony settings in Bali. External caterers and planners fully confirmed. Music curfew 11pm.

Named after the small temple on the beachfront ('Cape of Flowers'), 26 traditional Balinese bungalows set among gardens that have been growing for 60 years. Weddings centre on the Bale Beton — a two-storey open-air pavilion right on the beach, filled with antiques, with ancient trees forming a natural canopy. Does Sanur face east — does that affect the ceremony?
Sanur's main beach faces east, which means sunrise is spectacular and afternoon light is softer, coming from behind toward Mount Agung in the distance. Evening ceremonies use warm directional light over the calm sea. It photographs beautifully — differently from a west-facing sunset, but not worse.
Who is Sanur actually right for?
Sanur suits couples who value a genuinely relaxed Balinese community atmosphere over party-strip glamour. It's family-friendly, the beach has lifeguards and protected calm waters, the restaurants are excellent, and the pace is slower than the south's resort corridor. Older guests, families with children, and couples returning to Bali for their second or third trip tend to love it.
Is Villa Batujimbar really where Mick Jagger got married?
Yes — Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall married at Batujimbar in 1990. Princess Diana also stayed there, and Sting played an impromptu concert for houseguests. The history is genuine and documented. For couples who appreciate that kind of layered cultural story, Batujimbar is completely unique.
How far is Sanur from the airport?
Twenty minutes via the bypass road — comparable to Nusa Dua and faster than Seminyak or Canggu. Sanur is also the departure point for ferries to Nusa Penida and the Gilis, making it useful for guests who want to extend their trip.
Can we combine a Sanur ceremony with a different reception location?
Yes. Sanur's central position makes it easy to combine with Gianyar (15 min), Ubud (40 min) or Nusa Dua (20 min). We have produced multi-location events using Sanur for the ceremony and a larger estate for the reception and manage all logistics as part of the service.
